Madison County Public Schools Technology Plan Vision

All schools will have access to a shared or common set of 21st century tools and programs in order to move to an engaged and active student centered learning model. We will achieve this by working with all stakeholders (School Board, Superintendent, Central Office, Principals, Teachers, Staff, Students, Community, and the State) to implement the following initiatives.
  • Leveraging federal and state funding and shared services to further help us meet 21st century educational goals, improve internet access, WAN/LAN improvements, and implement our RttT Plan for staff development and resource opportunities for 21st century learning.
  • Madison County Schools is implementing a desktop virtualization system. Faced with severe budget cuts and state requirements for online testing the school system is implementing Citrix desktop virtualization. The Citrix system will provide teachers and students with significantly improved access to educational programs. The model breaks the chains of a standalone PC. With internet connectivity, end users will have the freedom of mobility to access their programs anywhere anytime. The Citrix system will provide some key benefits:
  • Teachers and Students will have access to their desktop and applications anywhere they have internet whether at school, home or literally anywhere in the world.
  • Extension of current PC lifecycle.
  • Easier program sharing and faster program deployment.
  • Better virus protection and prevention.
  • Simpler end user devices, thin clients, which are 1/3 the cost of conventional PCs.
  • Scalable platform to help meet the State requirements for online testing in schools.
  • Integration with Microsoft’s Office 365 email system: This is a system which will enable teachers and students to have cloud based email. The OneDrive provides 1TB of personal storage space and web based Microsoft office tools. These cloud services are fully funded through Microsoft at no cost to the school system, saving us close to $12 million dollars on storage costs alone.
Citrix is only part of the overall goal for Madison County Schools to implement 21st century technology throughout the system to help teachers and students to have a globally competitive learning environment. Two other areas of improvement for teachers and students
include:
  • Classroom Technology: The classrooms at all the schools have been equipped with active board systems so that teachers and students can use electronic /online resources in the classroom on demand. Please visit your child’s classroom.
  • Expand new website: www.madisonk12.net, which allows better information sharing and communication for teachers, students, and community.
Note: Madison County School System does not receive Priority 2 E-rate funding. This plan has the LEA Technology Plan components which have mostly been integrate into our RttT Plan. Each of the six State Technology Priorities are specifically enumerated in each specific RttT Plan Objective. Note that each RttT Activity may meet one or more State Technology goals. If a specific Madison County Public Schools Technology goal was not in the RttT Plan, then it is listed after the RttT Plan under “Additional Items Not Directly in RttT Plan”. The resulting product will be a living strategic plan for Technology and Curriculum for Madison County Schools as our Technology Plan is integrated with the RttT and Madison County School Board strategic initiatives based on budget and resource constraints.
